Epidemiological profile and comparison of use videolaryngoscopy versus direct laryngoscopy in patients submitted to cardiac surgery at a university hospital of Manaus - AM
Objetivo
Assess the epidemiological profile of patients and success at first passage of intubations in direct laryngoscopy (LD) and in the videolaryngoscopy (VL) undergoing patients under elective heart surgery in university hospital of Manaus.
Métodos
It's a transversal study in which have been selected adult patients submitted to orotracheal intubation in the period of the 01/06/24 to 31/07/24, age between 28 and 75 years, totalizing 60 patients, divided into 2 groups (VL versus LD).
Resultados
The population profile was composed predominant by male individuals totalizing 71.6%, with average age 66.24 years in LD group and 58.17 years in VL group. The most prevalent surgery was the revascularization of myocardium with extracorporeal circulation, 46.6%, followed by aortic valve implant with CEC, 26.6%. It prevailed Mallampati IV rating at 66.6% of patients and removal distance less than 6 centimeters in 30% of the cases with 100% success in first passage in intubations using VL in a lower time at 60 seconds. In contrast of 30 intubated patients by LD there was 1 failure with esophagic intubation (96.6% success).
Conclusão
This study corroborates what meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials that compare VL with LD in patients with difficult airways predicted: best laryngeal visualizations, higher frequency of successful intubation and in the first pass, less intubation maneuvers with the use of the videolaryngo, reducing time of intubation, internation time in intensive care unit, as well hospital expenses.
